Introduction
Welcome to The Word for the World (“TWFTW,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This page sets out the Terms of Use for our website, software, and services (together, the “Service”). How we handle personal information is described separately in our Privacy Policy.
Our mission is to support the accurate translation and checking, typesetting, and publication of Scripture, Scripture Engagement and community-centric material for every language community. We want to make the Service as widely available as possible to individuals and organisations who share this goal, while protecting the people, projects, and texts entrusted to us.
Our Service is designed for projects that combine Bible content with content from at least two other domains. Because many dedicated tools and services already exist for Bible-only work, we focus our Service on multi-domain projects that include the Bible, and do not accept projects that consist solely of Bible content (“Bible-only Projects”) or that include fewer than two other domains.
By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you accept these Terms of Use and acknowledge the practices described in our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. This page may be updated from time to time; continued use after changes are posted means you accept the revised terms.
Terms of Use
01License and eligibility
The Service is provided for the fee set out under “Fees” below, to support projects that combine Bible content with content from at least two other domains, as described under “Scope of Service”. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for its intended purpose. This license does not transfer ownership of the software or any resource texts to you, and it may not be resold, sublicensed, or used to provide a competing commercial service without our written permission.
Access to certain resource texts (such as source-language materials, model translations, and licensed reference works) may be restricted to registered users, qualified translators, or members of partner organisations, according to the license terms of the copyright holders who provide them.
02Scope of Service
The Service is provided only for projects that include Bible content together with content from at least two other domains (for example, educational, literary, agricultural, or tourism content). We do not accept, and the Service may not be used for, Bible-only Projects or projects that include content from fewer than two other domains. Because many dedicated tools and services already exist for Bible-only work, our Services focus on projects that extend beyond Bible translation and support broader language development.
To start a project, you submit a “Request to work with AiBT” form describing the project and the content domains it includes. We review each request against this Scope of Service and against our availability and workload at the time. Even where a project meets this Scope of Service, we may decline or defer it if we do not have capacity to take it on. Submitting a request does not commit either party. A project is accepted only when we confirm in writing that we accept it, together with its Annual Fee, term and payment schedule (the “Service Confirmation”).
We may, at our sole discretion, decline or discontinue any project that we reasonably determine does not meet this Scope of Service, including any Bible-only Project. If a project is determined to be outside this Scope of Service after the Service has begun, we may suspend the Service, and any fees already paid will not be refunded.
03Fees
- Annual Fee
- Pricing shown on our website is indicative only. The fee for each accepted project is set out in its Service Confirmation. Unless the Service Confirmation states otherwise, the fee for the Service is USD 20,000 (twenty thousand United States dollars) per year (the “Annual Fee”).
- Instalments
- The Annual Fee is invoiced in two equal instalments: 50% (USD 10,000) at the start of each annual term, and 50% (USD 10,000) at the start of the seventh month of that term. Each invoice is payable within 10 days of the invoice date.
- Full fee owed for each term
- The full Annual Fee is owed for each term. Instalments are a payment convenience only, and stopping use of the Service during a term does not reduce or cancel any instalment that falls due in that term. The only exception is if you end the Service because we have materially breached these Terms and not fixed the breach within 60 days of your written notice. In that case, any unpaid instalments for that term are cancelled, and we will refund the part of any fees already paid that covers the rest of the term after termination. Except as stated in these Terms, fees are non-refundable.
- Taxes
- The Annual Fee does not include any applicable taxes, duties, or other charges, including GST. Where required by law, these amounts will be added to the Annual Fee. If withholding tax applies, you are responsible for ensuring that we receive the full amount invoiced.
- Renewal and fee changes
- Each annual term renews automatically unless either party gives written notice of non-renewal before the current term ends. The Annual Fee is subject to review at each renewal. We will notify you in writing of any change to the Annual Fee at least 60 days before the start of the next annual term, by email to your registered address. Any revised fee will apply only from the start of the next annual term and will not affect fees already paid or the current term. If you do not agree to the revised fee, you may choose not to renew by giving us written notice before the new term begins. If you renew or continue to use the Service after the new term begins, you accept the revised fee.
- Late payment and invoice disputes
- Overdue amounts may incur interest at 1% per month, or the maximum rate permitted by law if lower, and we may suspend the Service after 15 days’ written notice of non-payment. Any dispute about an invoice must be raised in writing within 30 days of the invoice date, at the billing email address.
04Registration and accounts
All users must register to use the full Service. When you register, you agree to provide accurate information about yourself and, where applicable, your organisation and role. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Please notify us promptly of any unauthorised use.
Organisations may authorise their members for additional access tiers (for example, advanced checking). Such authorisation is governed by the agreement between the organisation and us, and may be withdrawn by either party.
05Your projects and content
You (or your organisation) retain ownership of the translation drafts, notes, comments, and other content you create through the Service (“Project Content”).
So that we can operate the Service, you authorise us to host, store, back up, transmit, and display Project Content as needed to provide collaboration, synchronisation, checking, and publishing features to you and your project team.
Project registration information (such as project name, language, organisation, and progress status) is used only to operate the Service. We do not share this information with other Bible translation agencies or any other third parties, except where required by law or as necessary to provide the Service. Projects and their associated content are accessible only to authorised members of your organisation and project team, and to authorised members of the AiBT team where access is necessary to operate, maintain, support, or secure the Service.
You are responsible for ensuring that resource texts, fonts, images, and other materials you upload do not infringe the rights of others, and that your use of licensed Scripture texts complies with the copyright holders’ terms.
06Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that harms the Service, other users, or their projects
- Copy, redistribute, or publish licensed resource texts outside the permissions granted by their copyright holders
- Misrepresent your identity, role, or organisational affiliation during registration or authorisation
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to accounts, projects marked confidential, or restricted resources
- Use confidential project status to circumvent registration review or publishing requirements
- Interfere with, reverse engineer, or disrupt the operation or security of the Service
We may suspend or remove access for accounts or projects that violate these terms. Where disagreements arise between organisations (for example, over overlapping projects), we encourage the parties to resolve them directly; unresolved matters may be referred to our governing body for mediation.
07Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Service is supplied “AS IS,” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. While we work hard to keep the Service reliable and your data safe, we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or error-free operation, and we strongly recommend that teams maintain their own backups of critical project data.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for loss of data, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.
08Termination
You may stop using the Service and request deletion of your account at any time. Fees for the current term remain payable as described under “Fees”. Either party may end the Service if the other materially breaches these Terms and does not fix the breach within 30 days of written notice. We may also suspend or terminate access where these terms are violated, where required by law, or where continued operation of a feature is discontinued. Where reasonably possible, we will give notice and an opportunity to export your Project Content.
09Changes to these terms
We may revise these Terms of Use as the Service develops. Significant changes will be announced on this page (and by email for registered users where appropriate). Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
