Privacy Policy
The Word for the World (“TWFTW,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy and collects only the information needed to operate our website, software, and services (together, the “Service”). This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. By using the Service, you acknowledge the practices described here.
01Information we collect
- Account and registration information
- Name, email address, country, organisational affiliation, and role. For authorised translators, we may record the access tier granted by your organisation.
- Project information
- Project name, language, translation type, participating organisations, team membership and roles, and progress status. We store the translation text itself to provide synchronisation, backup, and collaboration; it remains your content as described in our Terms of Use.
- Usage and technical information
- Log data such as sign-in events, software version, IP address, and error reports, used for security, support, and improving the Service. We do not use this data for advertising, and we do not sell personal information to anyone.
02How we use and share information
We use your information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service, including synchronisation, collaboration, and backup
- Verify eligibility for restricted resources and manage organisational authorisations
- Communicate with you about updates, security notices, and support requests
- Enable coordination across the Bible translation community, such as project registry listings and aggregate progress reporting
Basic project registration information may be shared with partner translation agencies under the agreements made with your organisation. Aggregate progress reporting never identifies individual team members and is not made available to a public audience. Confidential projects are shared only as described in our Terms of Use.
We use a small number of trusted service providers (for example, for hosting, email delivery, and error reporting) who process data on our behalf under appropriate safeguards. We may disclose information where required by law, or where necessary to protect the safety of users — a consideration we take especially seriously for teams working in sensitive locations.
03Data security and retention
We protect data in transit with industry-standard encryption (SSL/TLS) and restrict access to personal information to staff and contractors who need it to operate the Service. No system is perfectly secure, so we also encourage teams to use strong passwords and to limit project membership to those who need access.
We retain account and project information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, meet legal obligations, and preserve the integrity of translation project records. When you request deletion of your account, we remove or anonymise your personal information within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law or by agreement with your organisation.
04Your rights and choices
You may access and update your account information at any time, request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and request correction or deletion. Depending on your location, you may have additional rights under applicable data protection laws (such as the GDPR). To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.
05Cookies
Our website uses essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Where we use analytics to understand how the Service is used, data is aggregated and not used to profile individuals.
06Children’s privacy
The Service is intended for use by adults engaged in translation and publishing work. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us, and we will delete it.
07International data transfers
Because translation teams work worldwide, we may process your information in countries other than your own. Where this happens, we apply appropriate safeguards consistent with applicable data protection law.
08Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy as the Service develops. We will announce significant changes on this page, and we will notify registered users by email where appropriate. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the revised policy.
